On July 10, 2024, the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) officially handed over new training equipment for Advanced Obstetrics and Surgical Skills (AOSS) to the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) Faculty. This event took place at the Centre of Excellence at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Jabi, Abuja.
The newly equipped Centre of Excellence aims to boost Continuous Medical Education (CME) in Nigeria. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to empower faculty members and improve the quality of training for resident doctors. With access to state-of-the-art equipment, the residents will gain hands-on experience in critical obstetrics and surgical skills, ensuring that the next generation of healthcare professionals in Nigeria is well-prepared for the challenges ahead.
Attendees at the handover ceremony included notable figures such as Dr. P. Abiodun, Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee; Dr. Aliyu, Assistant CEMAC; Dr. Juliet Ofor, HOD O&G; and key representatives from LSTM and WBFA, including Dr. Hauwa Mohammed, Miss Adacha Boslam, and Miss Jennifer Eziuloh.
This project is funded by the Global Health Workforce Programme (GHWP), supported by the UK Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). The project is managed by the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET), with a clear objective: to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria while strengthening partnerships between the UK and its global health collaborators.
