MamaCare360 Programme

The MamaCare360 Programme advances the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3): Good Health and Well-being, by improving access to quality maternal and newborn healthcare. Rooted in the principles of Respectful Maternity Care (RMC), the programme champions every woman's right to safe, dignified, and person-centred care throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period, while strengthening maternal and newborn health outcomes across communities.

The MamaCare360 Programme, our flagship maternal health initiative, is founded on the understanding that the health and wellbeing of every child begins with the health of the mother. Aligned with the World Health Organization's recommendations for quality antenatal and postnatal care, the programme ensures that pregnant women and mothers have access to skilled midwives equipped to deliver life-saving interventions, health education, and birth preparedness. Through facility, community and outreach-based services, MamaCare360 strengthens sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health and nutrition (SRMNCAH+N) while promoting WASH behaviours, contributing to safer pregnancies, healthier newborns, and stronger families. Recognising that maternal wellbeing extends beyond physical health, MamaCare360 also integrates maternal mental health support through counselling, health education, and community engagement. By empowering women with knowledge, confidence, and continuous support throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period, the programme improves maternal health-seeking behaviours and advances equitable access to quality maternal and newborn care.

Delivering Antenatal and Postnatal Education

The MamaCare360 Antenatal and Postnatal Education Programme delivers evidence-based maternal and newborn care across 74 supported health facilities in Lagos, Kwara, FCT-Abuja, Cross River and Osun States. In 2025, the programme reached 69,783 pregnant women through antenatal education and 27,114 nursing mothers through postnatal care, representing increases of 15.3% and 8.7% respectively compared with 2024. The programme recorded 18,058 live births with zero maternal deaths among beneficiaries and a neonatal mortality rate of 3.9 per 1,000 live births, significantly below the national estimate. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of skilled midwifery, quality antenatal and postnatal care, and sustained community engagement in improving maternal and newborn survival.

MamaCare360 Digital Midwifery

The Digital Midwifery Service, an extension of the MamaCare360 Programme, provides pregnant women and nursing mothers with 24/7 access to trusted maternal and newborn health information, counselling, and direct support from qualified WBFA midwives through WhatsApp.

In 2025, 4,563 mothers enrolled across 31 WhatsApp groups, bringing cumulative participation to 12,329 mothers across the five implementing states. As Nigeria's first digital midwifery model, the service expands access to timely health information, personalised guidance, and continuous engagement, providing a scalable approach to strengthening maternal knowledge, health-seeking behaviours, and continuity of care beyond health facilities.
