Reckitt and WBFA: Advancing Public Health Through the Dettol Hygiene Quest Visit

On May 28, 2024, the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), in collaboration with its social impact partner Reckitt, welcomed Reckitt’s CEO, Kris Licht, and his team to Nigeria. The visit aimed to assess the impacts achieved during Phase 1 of the Dettol Hygiene Quest (DHQ) partnership program, focusing on schools, healthcare facilities, and communities. This event highlighted the program’s positive effects on public health and hygiene in Nigeria and established targets for Phase 2, demonstrating Reckitt’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Phase 1 yielded remarkable results, reaching 92 schools, 96 communities, and 35 healthcare facilities across Lagos, FCT Abuja, and Kwara. The program exceeded its initial goals, positively impacting 9,321 school students (target: 9,200), engaging 8,128 community members (target: 7,000), and reaching 25,835 mothers in healthcare facilities (target: 25,000).

As the program transitions into Phase 2, it aims for significant scaling. The new targets include reaching 620 schools – 200 in Lagos, 120 in Abuja, and 300 in Kwara – along with 360 communities and 36 healthcare facilities. Phase 2 aims to benefit 248,000 schoolchildren, 28,200 community members, and 48,000 mothers in healthcare facilities, marking a huge advancement in public health across Nigeria.

During this visit, the delegation toured Model Primary School in Maitama, Abuja, one of the implementing schools for the Dettol Hygiene Quest program. This initiative teaches students essential health and hand hygiene practices, with WBFA midwives and nurse educators guiding them on proper handwashing techniques and promoting the regular use of handwashing stations.

The program’s success reflects WBFA’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Health and Well-being. Through our ongoing partnership with Reckitt, WBFA is making a significant impact on the health and future of Nigeria’s young generation.
