RenewHER Launch: A Bold Step Towards Transforming Women’s Health in Nigeria

At the State House, Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially unveiled RenewHER, the Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative – a landmark programme designed to reduce maternal mortality and advance the health and wellbeing of women across Nigeria.

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Gala and Awards ceremony, the President described RenewHER as both a national priority and “an answer to one of the nation’s most critical prayers.” The initiative, he said, represents a central pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda, signalling a renewed commitment to protecting women’s lives and futures.

The launch drew national and international attention, with key stakeholders pledging support. First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, assured that the Forum would champion RenewHER’s mission in every state of the federation. In her remarks, Dr Adanna Steinacker, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, emphasised that the initiative was made possible by the President’s vision of placing women’s health at the forefront of national development. She called for stakeholders to unite as “one movement aimed at renewing Nigeria’s future.”

The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) highlights the significance of this institutional advancement. For over two decades, WBFA has championed reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health, embedding respectful maternity care, strengthening midwifery leadership, and integrating water, sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition into Nigeria’s health systems. From this perspective, RenewHER is both timely and catalytic — offering a structured platform for collaboration, data-driven investment, and accountability to deliver measurable outcomes for women, families, and communities.

Founder and President of WBFA, Mrs Toyin Ojora Saraki extended warm congratulations to Dr Steinacker and the organisers for convening such a distinguished assembly, encouraging all stakeholders to align efforts and resources so that commitments made at the launch translate into real impact. She reaffirmed that every pregnancy must be safe, every childbirth dignified, and every childhood given the opportunity to thrive.
