The Wellbeing Foundation Africa held a strategic dialogue with the Federal Capital Territory Administration Mandate Secretary for health and Environmental services, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe to strengthen maternal and reproductive health interventions across Abuja. The meeting, chaired by the Mandate Secretary, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, provided an opportunity to present WBFA’s ongoing initiatives, share impact data, and discuss areas of alignment with government health priorities.
Our Director of Public Policy, Partnerships, Innovation and Impact, Mr. Rasheed Yusuf outlined WBFA’s MamaCare360 programme, which delivers structured maternal health education and support for pregnant and nursing mothers. Drawing on findings from the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey, he highlighted persistent gaps in antenatal and postnatal attendance and explained how WBFA uses this data to expand its antenatal education sessions across healthcare facilities. He also presented plans to increase access to reproductive health services through a partnership with Bayer Pharmaceuticals, which will introduce subsidised and free contraceptives at primary healthcare centres, supported by the MamaCare360 digital platform for continuous information and consultations.
In her remarks, Dr. Fasawe commended WBFA’s work and shared her administration’s focus on integrating Traditional Birth Attendants into the health system and adopting low-cost reproductive health tools. She emphasised the importance of aligning WBFA’s interventions with the Federal Government’s essential commodities list and broader FCTA health strategies.
Mr. Kelvin Agagbe, the Abuja State Programs Lead provided further updates on WBFA’s activities, noting the Foundation’s presence in twelve healthcare facilities across the FCT and the reach of its Dettol Hygiene Quest programme in schools and communities. He also confirmed preparations for the Breast Cancer Screening Project, which will expand to additional facilities, including Kubwa and Nyanya General Hospitals. He stressed the importance of WBFA’s registration with the FCTA to ensure full integration of its programmes and data into the territory’s health system.
The meeting concluded with a commitment from the Mandate Secretary to support WBFA in obtaining formal approvals, securing registration, and joining the Technical Working Committee. Both parties agreed to strengthen collaboration, particularly in maternal and reproductive health, with the shared goal of improving outcomes for women, families, and communities across the Federal Capital Territory.
