WBFA WPD Webinar: Over 13 Million Babies Born Too Soon Every Year: Access to Quality Care Everywhere

The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), in partnership with its social impact partner Reckitt, is tackling the urgent public health challenge of Neonatal Jaundice (NNJ) and Kernicterus in Nigeria through Project Oscar. Launched in 2019 by youth disability activist Oscar Anderson, Project Oscar has made a significant impact in raising awareness and improving care for neonatal jaundice, reaching over 10,000 children and families in Vietnam. Building on this success, Project Oscar is now expanding into Nigeria, with WBFA leading its implementation. This expansion is particularly timely, as World Prematurity Day offers a key platform to raise awareness around neonatal health challenges, including preterm birth and NNJ.

In line with our overarching goal of improving healthcare for neonates, this webinar aligns with this year’s World Prematurity Day theme: “Over 13 Million Babies Born Too Soon Every Year: Access to Quality Care Everywhere.”

Through this discussion, we aim to further our mission by engaging healthcare workers and the general public in an enriching conversation focused on raising awareness and improving access to quality care for newborns, particularly those affected by neonatal jaundice.

1. Raise awareness of preterm birth and Neonatal Jaundice (NNJ).
2. Promote access to quality care for all preterm infants.
3. Facilitate knowledge-sharing on best practices in neonatal care.
4. Engage healthcare workers and stakeholders in improving neonatal health.
